Kiiii-yaaah!!

Originally, this post was going to be a better-late-than-never pull list, but since there are only a couple of titles I'm definitely picking up this week (Green Lantern #46 and Unknown Soldier #12) ... well, it seemed kind of silly to call it a "list."

But there are a couple of other comics that are calling out to me this week, namely the Shang-Chi, Master of Kung-Fu one-shot and the Justice League of America 80-Page Giant. Both feature old favorites, and it'll come down to taking a look at both of them in the shop before I can decide on either one. But since the Shang-Chi title reminded me of this incredibly awesome house ad ...

I think you can tell which way I'm leaning, Grasshopper.

What are you picking up this week?

It's about 30 years later and this ad makes me want to track down those Shang-Chi issues. That's just some great artwork by Zeck.

Did you get the one-shot? It's worth it for the first story alone, and I'm really enjoying the old-school, black and white vibe of the whole thing.

But that JLA 80-page special - blech.

The MOKF special was meh for me. The lead story, while entertaining, really wasn't a Shang Chi story at all. It was a Deadpool story, and there absolutely no reason the other guy had to be Shang...it could have been anyone. The middle story was on OK faux-Moench, but a story MOKF has told 50 times already. The Midnight story kinda stunk.

I like the JLA 80 pager, however. Go figure.

That's a killer ad...the art the composition, the lighting!! Ah, they don't make 'em like that anymore...

Snell: That's a good point about the first story; it really was more of a Deadpool story, and I would've liked to have seen more Shang-Chi style kung-fu. I haven't read the rest of it yet so we'll see how it grabs me.

That 80-Page Giant ... I just can't get past how bad some of the art turned out. The stories are OK (though kinda pedestrian, despite some neat ideas), but the art just takes me right out of it. What kills me is that I WANT to like it. Ah, well.

Rob: It's very simple but Zeck managed to put a lot of detail into it, mostly in the sheer physicality of Shang-Chi. It's a great ad.
